DHS Secretary Nielsen pledges cooperation with Congress on ‘active’ cyber defense measures

Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen is open to working with Congress on a solution to allow private industry to “hack back” to protect their IT systems, while citing some concerns and the need to augment existing efforts to boost cybersecurity.

Nielsen told Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Department of Homeland Security oversight that DHS is willing to have conversations on Capitol Hill on legislation that would allow for some limited active cybersecurity measures.
