White House elevates Cyber Command, as DOD reviews separating NSA function

President Trump today announced that U.S. Cyber Command would be elevated to the status of a unified combatant command focused on cyberspace operations, directing the Defense secretary to review the possibility of separating the command from the National Security Agency.

Trump said in a statement that the Defense secretary will announce recommendations on ending the “dual-hat” arrangement between NSA and CYBERCOM “at a later date,” but that elevating the command would “help streamline command and control of time-sensitive cyberspace...
