Senators introduce bipartisan bill setting minimum security requirements for federal IoT

A bipartisan coalition of senators has introduced a new bill establishing minimum cybersecurity requirements for Internet of Things devices purchased by the federal government.

The Internet of Things Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2017 was introduced by Sens. Mark Warner (D-VA), Cory Gardner (R-CO), Ron Wyden (D-WA), and Steve Daines (R-MT) on Tuesday. The measure will “likely” be referred to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, a congressional aide told Inside Cybersecurity.
