Senate probe of election hacking prompts questions about DHS' cyber info-sharing

Department of Homeland Security officials were questioned yesterday about the department's insistence on the confidentiality of parties that share cyber-incident data with the government, at a hearing by the Senate Intelligence Committee on Russian interference in the presidential election.

DHS officials refused to divulge the names of the 21 states that had been targeted by Russian hackers in the 2016 election, arguing that protecting the identity of cyber victims is a core principle of the department's info-sharing operations.
