House Energy and Commerce panel sets markup on compromise privacy bill, ransomware measure

The House Energy and Commerce consumer protection subcommittee has added compromise privacy legislation to its markup agenda for Thursday, moving quickly to advance a measure designed to break years of deadlock over establishing a federal data privacy law.

The legislation, H.R. 8152, was offered by Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone (D-NJ) and ranking member Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) following a hearing last week on a discussion draft.
