Biden signs national security memorandum setting ‘performance goals’ for critical infrastructure

A national security memorandum signed today by President Biden sets “performance goals” for critical infrastructure operators, in what the administration is framing as a “first step” in addressing a “patchwork” of inadequate cybersecurity controls across vital industry sectors.

The “National Security Memorandum on Improving Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure Control Systems” directs the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and National Institute of Standards and Technology to craft cybersecurity performance goals for critical infrastructure, according to a senior administration official.
