Energy Dept. sets deadline to enforce China-focused bulk power order to protect military installations

The Energy Department will prohibit electric utilities serving “critical defense facilities” from using bulk power equipment made by Chinese companies starting on Jan. 16, according to an Energy Department notice published this week.

The Energy Department was directed by President Trump in a May 2020 executive order to take steps to secure bulk power systems from foreign adversaries. The prohibition order was announced by DOE on Dec. 17. The Federal Register notice sets up an official deadline and...
