Biden selects DHS veteran Mayorkas to lead department, names Blinken for State plus other security picks

President-elect Biden is going with an experienced hand to run the Department of Homeland Security, announcing that he will nominate Alejandro Mayorkas to serve as secretary of DHS, while also selecting Antony Blinken for secretary of State and Jake Sullivan for National Security Advisor.

Mayorkas served as DHS deputy secretary during the Obama administration’s second term, and later led the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Cyber Leadership Council and practiced law at O’Melveny & Myers and most recently WilmerHale.
