NIST project examines incorporating security into electric grid IoT solutions

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is promoting its collaboration with companies on securing the Internet of Things in a distributed energy resources environment, including with a “how-to” guide and “example solution” for operators.

Through NIST’s National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence, researchers are looking into how DERs, such as solar photovoltaics and wind turbines, can exchange information securely with a utility’s distribution control system.
