Homeland Security panel Dems agree to codify voluntary cyber approach for pipelines at TSA

The pipeline industry secured an under-the-radar victory with the unanimous passage through a key House committee of a bill that would ensure cybersecurity inspections and risk assessments of their facilities remain voluntary.

The House Homeland Security Committee on Wednesday agreed to an amendment from Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-AZ) to the bill – H.R. 3699 – introduced by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) that would codify the Transportation and Security Administration as responsible for managing the cybersecurity of pipelines.
