Verizon representative highlights encryption protocol in assessing security concerns tied to foreigners’ use of Huawei, ZTE

Fifth-generation telecommunication systems are designed to counter domestic security threats posed by the presence of Chinese equipment in networks abroad, according to the representative of a leading U.S. wireless network operator.

“The protocols, and the security, at least with respect to our network, are designed to address that,” said Kathleen Grillo, senior vice president of public policy and government affairs for Verizon, who noted the company was the first to deploy 5G services in the U.S.
