TSA issues pipeline security directive; industry pledges to ‘lean into’ collaborative cyber efforts

TSA today announced its Security Directive for the pipeline sector in response to the cyber attack on Colonial Pipeline, including a mandatory incident-reporting requirement and the promise of additional steps that represent a more regulatory approach to cybersecurity than seen to date from a Department of Homeland Security agency.

The directive takes effect at midnight tonight and “requires TSA-specified Owner/Operators to report cybersecurity incidents to the Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.” Such reports to CISA...
