Trump signs 5G strategy bill, but cautions on implementation and preserving presidential authority

President Trump has signed the “Secure 5G and Beyond Act” while warning that he will implement the new law in a way that doesn’t “interfere” with the president’s “exclusive” constitutional authority to conduct foreign relations.

The measure, S. 893, calls for a strategy that ensures the security of 5G and future wireless communications systems; provides technical assistance to allies, strategic partners and other countries; and suggests ways to ensure the competitiveness of U.S. companies, privacy for consumers, and impartiality...
