Treasury issues sanctions on North Korea for WannaCry; key Democrat praises move

The Treasury Department today announced sanctions against North Korean entities linked to a massive cyber attack, drawing praise from a key Democratic lawmaker.

The Treasury Department identified “Lazarus Group,” “Bluenoroff,” and “Andariel” as “agencies, instrumentalities, or controlled entities of the Government of North Korea,” and linked the groups to the 2017 WannaCry attack, which affected 150 countries and cost the United Kingdom’s National Health Service over $112 million, as well as to intrusions in the media, defense and financial industries....
