Tech industry touts voluntary IoT security standards, as FTC threat looms

Tech sector groups and the Federal Trade Commission are both promoting “best practices” for cybersecurity and privacy in the Internet of Things in comments to the Commerce Department on IoT policy, while the FTC is also threatening enforcement actions for inadequate security measures.

The Information Technology Industry Council told the National Telecommunications and Information Administration that any IoT policy process needs to replicate processes spearheaded by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to address growing security and privacy concerns...
