Tech groups pleased by EU move on ‘Standard Contractual Clauses’ for data transfers, renew call for ‘Privacy Shield’ replacement

Key U.S. tech industry groups are praising the European Commission’s adoption of Standard Contractual Clauses addressing privacy and other issues in data transfers involving European Union and non-EU countries, while urging continued work on replacing the U.S.-EU “Privacy Shield” to govern transatlantic data flows.

The European Commission today published the final version of its “implementing decision” for SCCs, and the final text of the SCC regulation. Both were published last November in draft form.
