Sources: Election security bill expected to move separately from DHS reauthorization legislation

Sens. James Lankford (R-OK) and Kamala Harris (D-CA) are expected to offer stand-alone legislation for election data security next week, after the proposal was withdrawn as part of first-time reauthorization for the Department of Homeland Security, according to congressional sources.

The legislation is being reworked in response to concerns raised by a group of secretaries of state who argued the plan lacked clarity about DHS responsibilities for sharing cyber-threat information with states, with an announcement about a possible agreement next...
