Senate Homeland Security panel sets Jan. 19 hearing on Mayorkas for DHS secretary

Alejandro Mayorkas, nominated by President-elect Biden to lead the Department of Homeland Security, will appear before the Senate Homeland Security Committee on Jan. 19 for his confirmation hearing, the panel’s bipartisan leaders announced today.

It’s unclear how quickly the panel or the full Senate will be able to vote on the nomination, but the hearing sets the stage for Mayorkas to take his position soon after Biden’s swearing-in on Jan. 20.
