Pentagon looks to 'zero trust' as cloud security concerns persist

The Defense Department's cloud computing applications face approximately 10,000 "serious cyber attacks" on a weekly basis, according to a DOD official, who said the department needs the commercial sector's help in shifting to a better cloud security model.

DOD still relies upon a legacy "defense-in-depth" cybersecurity model largely geared toward preventing cyber attacks through techniques and tools like firewalls, intrusion detection, log data, and analytics, according to John Hale, chief of the Defense Information Systems Agency's cloud portfolio office.
