NIST prepares to issue draft revisions for protecting 'controlled unclassified' data next year

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is expected to issue draft revisions for guidelines on protecting “controlled unclassified information” from advanced threats early next year, a move that would affect government and defense contractors, who already face increased pressure to secure data, networks and supply chains.

NIST is currently conducting internal reviews on the scope and intent of the proposed revisions, which would update Special Publication 800-171, according to a source involved in the effort. The proposal will likely...
