Local governments, in shadow of federal efforts, grapple with cybersecurity in 'smart cities'

GAITHERSBURG, MD. As local governments work to make their communities more efficient with “smart” -- connected -- technologies, cities and municipalities are increasingly seen as a target for cyber attackers and should look to their procurement power to mitigate risks, according to a senior Department of Homeland Security official.
