Lawmakers ditch Pentagon spectrum-sharing proposal after telecom industry warns of 'power shift'

House and Senate negotiators cut a provision in the final version of the fiscal 2020 defense policy bill that would have given the Pentagon more power over electromagnetic spectrum resources in developing 5G networks, after the telecommunications industry raised concerns about the "proposed power shift."

The compromise fiscal 2020 legislation released this week did not retain a provision included under Section 214 of the Senate's original bill that would have established an "electromagnetic spectrum sharing research and development program."...
