Key EU Commissioner Jourová dings sector-specific approach to data protection in the U.S.

European Union Commissioner Věra Jourová is flagging a sector-specific approach to privacy protection as unsatisfactory, in calling for a U.S. law that will inspire confidence that trans-Atlantic digital exchanges honor the protections offered by the EU's General Data Protection Regulation.

“We would like to see similar, preferably federal, law in the United States, which would enable us to easier allow data flows,” said Jourová, the commissioner for justice, consumers and gender equality who led the EU's adoption of the GDPR....
