Justice Dept. officials urge companies to see 'big picture,' share info on data breaches

Senior Department of Justice officials are highlighting carrots, rather than sticks, in encouraging private companies to notify them in the event of a data breach, in the interest of addressing big-picture national security concerns.

“Health companies, financial services companies, these are not the types of companies that you would have traditionally thought of from a national security perspective, but they are of a great deal of interest to us now,” John Demers, assistant attorney general for national security, said today....
