Industry offers steps for putting U.S. out front in development of international standards key to security

A new report from tech and telecom groups urges renewed U.S. participation in global standards-setting bodies as a key element of national economic and cybersecurity policy, citing negative security and competitiveness impacts from Trump era actions to pull back from the engagements.

“[T]he U.S. government can take both immediate and longer-term actions to strengthen U.S. leadership in standards, which would bolster U.S. competitiveness,” the report said, while underscoring related cybersecurity benefits.
