Industry leader recommends consumer 'rebates' for IoT security at NIST meeting

A key industry representative for the electricity sector is recommending a security certification program for devices that connect to the internet, which could offer consumer “rebates” as a way to mitigate cybersecurity risks from the emerging Internet of Things.

The proposal was offered by Exelon's Spencer Wilcox as similar to the Energy Star labeling program at a meeting hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology on promoting internet resiliency and mitigating automated and distributed attacks.
