Industry’s push for expanding info-sharing liability protections meets resistance

Open-internet advocates say arguments painting the nation’s antitrust laws as a hurdle to effective cybersecurity policy -- from real-time, routine sharing of threat information to efforts to develop the technology for fifth-generation networks -- are dubious.

“I'm skeptical when companies claim 'oh we can't do it because our antitrust lawyers won't let us.' Let's pressure-test that a little,” Avery Gardiner, senior fellow for competition, data, and power at the Center for Democracy and Technology, told Inside Cybersecurity.
