House passes bills directing DHS to develop guidelines for software development, codify FCC’s security council

The House approved five bills Wednesday with national security implications including legislation to reshape how DHS approaches software security for its contractors and measures addressing telecom issues at the FCC and Commerce Department.

The DHS Supply Chain Risk Management Act of 2021 “requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to develop guidelines for identifying materials used in software development,” according to a release from bill sponsor Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY).
