House Financial Services panel to kick off hearings on breach notification

A House Financial Services subcommittee on Wednesday will hold the first in what may be a series of hearings on possible data security and breach notification legislation, amid ongoing industry divisions and persistent questions on whether Congress can tackle the issue.

The hearing in the financial institutions and consumer credit subcommittee follows up on Chairman Blaine Luetkemeyer's (R-MO) pledge last fall to pursue legislation in the aftermath of the Equifax breach.
