FTC seeks input on expanded authority for data security, privacy protections

The Federal Trade Commission is seeking public comment on whether it needs greater authority to address data privacy and security concerns amid increased business competition driven by big data analytics and other technological innovations.

“The intersection between privacy, big data, and competition” is among the 11 topics laid out by the FTC in a Federal Register notice issued on Monday, which set an Aug. 20 deadline for comments and laid out the schedule for a series of public hearings...
