Former chair Wheeler: FCC cyber reversals under Pai opened door to 5G nationalization idea

Former Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler says a “mind-boggling” National Security Council proposal to nationalize next-generation “5G” wireless networks flowed directly from the current FCC leadership's decision to abandon cybersecurity initiatives launched under the previous administration.

In his blog on the Brookings website, Wheeler points to actions under Chairman Ajit Pai to reverse FCC moves on 5G cybersecurity and says, “So, now the White House awakens to the consequences of the FCC’s actions: worsening vulnerabilities to cyber threats...
