FCC's data privacy, security rules are targeted in debate over agency restructuring

The Federal Communications Commission's regulations for securing consumer data held by broadband internet service providers has come into the cross-hairs of a brewing fight over reining in the agency's authorities in a Trump administration.

Industry critics of the rules have long argued that they would unfairly impose separate requirements on ISPs from the Federal Trade Commission's privacy and security demands for most other businesses.
