FCC bans China Unicom Americas from providing telecom services in U.S., citing national security threat

The Federal Communications Commission has prohibited China Unicom Americas from operating in the United States, the FCC’s latest move to address potential security threats posed by major Chinese telecom firms.

“Today we take another critical step to protect our communications networks from foreign national security threats. We direct China Unicom Americas to discontinue any domestic or international services that it provides pursuant to its Section 214 authority,” FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel said today.
