FBI cyber official urges small businesses to implement ‘basic’ cybersecurity controls

NEW YORK -- A top cybersecurity official at the FBI is urging small and medium sized businesses to adopt rudimentary cybersecurity protocols to minimize cyber risk, while pledging that the FBI is working with international partners to take down malicious cyber actors.

Scott Smith, assistant director of the FBI’s Cyber Division, said at the FBI-Fordham University International Conference on Cybersecurity here that even with budgetary constraints smaller businesses should still implement a baseline level of cybersecurity protections.
