Energy Dept. proposes review of cyber reliability standards used by FERC for ‘foreign risk’

The Energy Department is recommending an evaluation by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission of a set of standards used by utilities to improve their cybersecurity postures.

“The Commission should direct the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) to initiate an examination of the CIP Reliability Standards to identify any gaps in application to address the risks to the bulk electric system posed by foreign adversaries,” the Energy Department wrote in a FERC filing last week.
