DOJ merges computer crime and cryptocurrency teams citing benefits for ransomware efforts

The Department of Justice is merging its cryptocurrency enforcement team into the computer crime section, in a move that it says will bolster DOJ’s anti-ransomware work and efforts under the Biden administration’s national cyber strategy.

“Merging [the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team] into [the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section] better positions the Criminal Division to meet the challenges set out by the National Cybersecurity Strategy,” principal deputy assistant attorney general Nicole Argentieri said Thursday.
