DHS Secretary Nielsen’s pledge to work with Congress on ‘hack back’ renews push for legislation

Legislation to allow private companies to “hack back” and protect their data may pick up steam on Capitol Hill, after Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen pledged to work with lawmakers on developing a solution that could help boost cybersecurity protections for the public and private sectors.

Nielsen, who testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, said she is willing to engage in talks with lawmakers on so-called “active defense” policies, while citing concerns around liability and insurance.
