DHS’ Krebs: Russia’s cyber influence campaigns continue, ‘technical’ attacks decline since ‘16

DHS Under Secretary Christopher Krebs today told lawmakers that Russia continues to employ cyber-enabled information campaigns aimed at sowing divisions in the U.S. electorate, but that “technical” attacks on election infrastructure aren’t showing up as they did during the 2016 elections.

“We’re not seeing anything on either [the technical or information] side at the 2016 level, but we do see continued activity, we’re seeing more information operations than technical attacks,” Krebs said.
