Cyber policy leaders discuss issues surrounding a shift toward regulation led by sector agencies

The regulatory tilt in cyber policy is being driven by sector-specific agencies, lending it a certain incoherence that may be unavoidable in an urgent effort to ramp up the cybersecurity of critical infrastructure, according to cyber policy vet James Dempsey of Stanford University.

“The urgency is justified,” Dempsey said Tuesday at an American Enterprise Institute event, even if “cybersecurity is a crazy quilt” right now. He suggested a comprehensive cyber strategy can emerge from the series of incremental policy moves....
