'Cyber event' sparks concerns along western U.S. power grid

The Department of Energy has circulated a brief notice that a “cyber event” affected electric grid operations in the western United States in early March, but offered few details.

“DOE received a report about a denial-of-service condition that occurred at an electric utility on March 5, 2019 related to a known vulnerability that required a previously published software update to mitigate,” DOE said in a statement on Wednesday.
