Congress, consumer bureau reviewing massive Equifax data breach

Lawmakers as well as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are looking into a data breach at credit reporting firm Equifax that resulted in the unauthorized access of personal data of approximately 143 million American consumers.

A House Judiciary Committee aide told Inside Cybersecurity that the panel plans to hold a hearing on the breach this fall and review current laws with an eye toward strengthening them to better prevent cyber attacks. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) sent a letter to House...
