Commerce official resists push for longer comment period on rules for exporting 'foundational' tech

The Commerce Department is reluctant to extend the public review period for a closely watched proposal on controlling export of “foundational” technology for national security purposes, according to a senior Commerce official, who said a 90-day comment period could flood the department with feedback.

“What we're very careful of, from the government, is that if you give a little bit too much time, you're just going to be inundated with comments and you have to go through all of those,”...
