Commerce official praises evolving federal cyber controls, says higher vigilance needed for IoT

The acting CIO and CISO at the Department of Commerce said recent revisions to federal guidelines involving security of federal data systems are positive, but that these could go further in addressing the monitoring of Internet-of-Things devices.

Rod Turk specifically praised the National Institute of Standards and Technology's 800-53 updated draft guidance while speaking Wednesday on a panel on “The Intersection of IoT and Cyber Security” at the MeriTalk 2017 Cyber Security Brainstorm summit at the Newseum.
