Commerce Dept., Pentagon announce ‘Open 5G’ challenge to help spur next-generation networks

The Commerce and Defense departments are asking for the public's suggestions on how to execute a new, fifth-generation wireless technology competition aimed at developing open 5G networks.

In a "notice of inquiry" released Monday, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration announced the "creation of a 5G Challenge that would accelerate the development of the open 5G stack ecosystem in support of Department of Defense missions."
