Commerce Department releases landmark 'botnet' report for public comment

The Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration today unveiled a draft report on mitigating cyber risk from automated “botnet” attacks, fulfilling a key component of President Trump’s cybersecurity executive order issued last May.

The report -- developed through a partnership between NTIA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Department of Homeland Security -- identifies six “principal themes” in “dramatically reducing” botnet threats through public-private collaboration, but does not identify specific legislative or regulatory actions that...
