China's WTO e-commerce proposal would limit ability to block ICT products on security grounds

China has proposed new language on electronic commerce in negotiations at the World Trade Organization, suggesting that members be prevented from limiting or blocking trade in information and communications technology equipment and products -- a proposal that comes after the U.S. imposed such restrictions on Chinese telecom company Huawei.

China’s proposal, dated Sept. 20, says WTO members “shall accord to enterprises and electronic commerce-related network equipment and products of any other Member treatment no less favorable than that it accords...
