California DMV to require cyber certification for autonomous cars under new draft rule

The California Department of Motor Vehicles is requiring automakers to obtain certifications for the cybersecurity of self-driving vehicles before deploying them on the road, according to revised draft regulations being circulated ahead of an April workshop.

According to the revised regulations, automakers planning to deploy autonomous vehicles on California roads must receive a certification that vehicles have “self-diagnostic capabilities that meet current industry best practices to detecting and responding to cyber attacks.”
