Botnet report designates industry, government roles in collaborating on automated threat mitigation

A new draft report from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration on mitigating “botnet” cyber threats establishes specific roles industry stakeholders and federal agencies -- including regulators -- should have in a concerted voluntary effort to mitigate vulnerabilities from automated cyber attacks.

The report released Friday was developed by the Commerce Department -- through NTIA and the National Institute of Standards and Technology -- and the Department of Homeland Security, with consultation of numerous other agencies. The report details...
