Analysts tell security commission: Prepare for China’s ‘Sputniks’ by investing, not restricting

The U.S. should prepare for Chinese technological breakthroughs by investing in research and development in emerging technologies and developing high-end talent, rather than trying to inhibit China’s rise, which faces its own systemic challenges, analysts told the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission during a recent hearing.

Similarly, executives from Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei and Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML last week suggested restrictions imposed by the U.S. government are detrimental and could hamper U.S. innovation efforts.
