Wyden seeks action to foil hackers impersonating government offices

Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) is urging federal officials to immediately make use of existing “industry-standard technologies” to make it “harder for fraudsters and foreign governments to impersonate federal agencies.”

In a July 18 letter to Jeanette Manfra, assistant secretary for cybersecurity and communications at the Department of Homeland Security, Wyden cited recent phishing campaigns in which hackers sent out emails purporting to come from the Internal Revenue Service and Defense Security Service as examples of the threat.
